Note: This is a second hand but mostly good book. The cover has some minor bends in it and the outer edges of the pages have yellowed a bit. Having said that, it is still quite readable and if you are a fan of Alexander McCall Smith, this is a cheap way to add to your collection.
To the casual observer, the enlightened city of Edinburgh, home to no-nonsense philosophers and cream teas, might seem immune to the whirlwind of strong emotions. However, at 44 Scotland Street, life is anything but calm. As Matthew and Elspeth embark on the daring adventure of married love, the quirky portrait painter Angus Lordie has a premonition of disaster.
Soon enough, Irene Pollock is shocked to discover that her young son, Bertie, harbors a highly unsuitable ambition. Meanwhile, the gloriously vain Bruce finds his first wrinkle and faces rejection, and Angus encounters the serious repercussions of unrestrained joy, along with an unexpected visit from a large Glaswegian gangster bearing gifts.
